4 Common High School Stains

As the first high school term finishes, kids are relieved to get a break. For busy parents, the thought of more laundry lingers. Laundry during the school year is difficult, but parents have learned the lesson to prepare. As you’re putting the school uniforms in the washer, you’ll encounter stains. This blog will go through the 4 common high school stains.

1. Ink

Perhaps not surprisingly, ink is at the top of the most common high school stains. Your child will be using ballpoint pens every day, so the writing is on the wall – ink stains are inevitable but worry not, they aren’t difficult to remove.

Ballpoint ink stains don’t take much to remove. If the ink is dry, rub alcohol on it, soak it for 15 minutes and then blot the stain. Afterwards, rinse the uniform in cold water and apply stain remover on it. Once you’re happy with the results, put the uniform in the washing machine and press the hot settings to start the cycle.

2. Paint

Painting is a fun activity for kids and great for the mindset as it encourages creativity. However, parents don’t have much fun removing paint stains from clothes because unfortunately, paint is one of the most common high school stains.

Water-based paint is regularly used in schools. The good news for parents is that it’s easy to remove.

To begin with, get a butter knife and scrape off as much as you can and then use warm water to rinse it. After you’ve done this, get a laundry detergent and mix half of it in warm water then blot it with a paper towel. If you’re happy with the results and the stain is going away, wash the uniform in the washing machine.

3. Mud

As much as we warn the kids about how dirty the mud is, they’ll still go and play sports in the muddy areas. We’re talking about football, cricket and even rugby!

Fortunately, mud stains are very visible, unlike ink stains, so chances are, you’ll spot them as soon as your child returns from school (bringing the mud with them!). When you see mud stains on their uniform, simply put the school uniform in the washing machine at 40 degrees. Mud stains usually will go away in the cycle.

For those sticky mud stains that have gone unnoticed for a period, brush them away first, pour liquid detergent on them and rinse them on cold water. Then put them in the washing machine at normal settings.

4. Glue

Whether it’s used on a project or in textbooks, glue always somehow lands on school uniforms. Everyone dreads seeing sticky glue on their uniform – it’s hard to avoid but it is easy to remove.

Simply get a butter knife and scrape the glue off the school uniform. Afterwards, put the uniform in the washing machine and wash at 40 degrees.

Back To School: Laundry Preparations

School is back and the familiar feeling of busier laundry chores also returns. For parents, this is a source of frustration because school uniforms can overfill the laundry basket. However, it doesn’t have to be this way. With better laundry preparations, the new school year can be managed better!

Here are our tips for better laundry preparations for the school year.

1. Separate The School Clothes

Separating school clothes from normal clothes does help with organisation. After all, school clothes don’t just include uniforms, but they also include sports kits and socks. Separating school clothes from other clothes prevents the problem of overloading the washing machine. In addition, it’s advised to turn everything inside out to reduce the probability of colours fading.

2. Look For Any Stains

The weather in September is still hot; typically, kids love to play sports during lunch breaks, which increases the likelihood of any mud stains. If your kid loves art, paint stains are also common. In general, ink stains are the most common throughout the school year.

For better laundry preparations, make sure you make your own stain remover. This can be usually done by mixing baking soda and white vinegar together. Highly effective against mud stains.

3. Book a Laundry Service

Booking a laundry service is a huge time saver for parents. Laundryheap is a reliable and convenient laundry service. Think of it like Uber but for laundry. Parents already lead busy lifestyles. 4. Introduce Your Kids To Laundry

Teaching your kids about laundry breeds discipline and work ethic. These are important life skills. Tell your kids about the basics of laundry; putting clothes in the basket, separating colours, using detergents, folding clothes to remove wrinkles etc. Not only does this help laundry preparations for you but your kids will become more independent.

The new school year can be challenging for everyone involved as it takes time to settle after a long summer. With better laundry preparations, the chores will be managed just fine!

Laundry Tips For University Students

Starting university is the next big chapter in life; students get to experience independence for the first time and with independence, comes responsibility and chores. One of these chores will be laundry. It can be quite daunting to face this for the first time and If you’re a student who is worried about laundry, we’re here to help you. Here are our laundry tips for university students!

Ask About The Machines

When you first arrive at the university, you’ll be given a tour around the campus and be briefed about the washing machine. Usually, it will either be a coin-operated system, or you’ll be given a laundry card that you can top up.

Our laundry tip for university students is to ask questions about the machines just to understand how the machines work and to gain familiarity. We do recommend using the machines on the campus because it’s convenient and it saves money.

Avoid Mixing Clothes or Sharing With Flatmates

The golden rule of laundry is to separate the colours; the brighter clothes and the dark-coloured clothes need to be washed separately. Not only will this prevent colour bleeding between clothes, but it will also lead to better cleaning results.

Furthermore, don’t get drawn into sharing your laundry with flatmates. There could be a risk of ruining their clothes. You also could get into a habit where you are regularly washing their laundry with yours.

Wash With Care

Washing with care is perhaps one of the most important laundry tips for university students. Before you put your clothes in the washing machine, read the care instructions to see if the fabric is suitable for the laundry detergent. Check if there is anything inside your pockets. You’d be surprised at how many people, not just students, forget to check their pockets.

Moreover, make sure you are turning your clothes upside down, inside out to preserve your clothes better.

Be Organised

When listing laundry tips for university students, it’s hard not to mention organisation. This starts with your packing. Don’t overpack clothes, only take what you need. This saves you money and helps pile clothes in your room better. The fewer clothes you bring, the less laundry you need to do.

Empty Your Machine

It’s important you empty your machine when the cycle is finished. Living at university is all about respect. You study with students; you share a kitchen with your flatmates, and you also use the same washing machines as them.

Use a Laundry Service

If you are uncertain about laundry and need help, just get in touch with Laundryheap! We’ll take care of your laundry. It’s convenient and cost-effective! You can focus on your studying while we handle your laundry. All you need to do is book a service with us and choose a collection date!
