On-Demand Laundry Service Laundryheap Acquires Laundrapp!

Laundryheap has completed the acquisition of Laundrapp, one of the key competitors in the UK laundry market industry. Founded in 2014 as a start-up on-demand laundry service, Laundryheap’s mission was to give the public a convenient laundry service and the growth certainly hasn’t stopped! Acquiring Laundrapp is a testament to the astronomical rise of Laundryheap.

What does this mean for Laundryheap?

The acquisition of Laundrapp means Laundryheap has expanded its regional reach across the UK, making us the market leader in the UK. Previously, Laundrapp acquired Wash box and merged with competitor Zipjet.

CEO and Founder Deyan Dmitrov made the following comments:

‘The acquisition of Laundrapp is a testament to the resilience of our model and ongoing demand for high-quality, reliable on-demand laundry services. We’re delighted to be expanding our UK footprint‘ Source: City A.M

Essentially, this also means Laundryheap’s customer base has increased. The hard work doesn’t stop, and the mission and objectives will remain the same. Laundryheap will still make it a key priority to give you, the consumer, the best on-demand laundry service that is fast, easy, and convenient for your laundry duties!

Laundry Made Easier with Laundryheap

What will happen to Laundrapp?

Laundrapp’s employees will be retained. Before the acquisition of Landrapp, both laundry services worked to make laundry easier for everyone and this won’t change now! We are looking forward to welcoming the team from Laundrapp and getting involved in working together!

Over the coming months, however, the Laundrapp brand will be replaced by the Laundryheap brand.

What’s next for Laundryheap?

The magnitude of Laundryheap’s success has been massive. Operating globally in countries such as UAE, Denmark, Singapore, Netherlands, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Ireland and USA was a success in its own right. Becoming the main market leader in the UK now bodes well for the future. There is still a (laundry) list of goals and objectives that we’ll work on.

The focus on helping the environment, even more, remains a priority still. Laundryheap has recently invested in e-cargo bikes. It’s great that customers get their laundry cleaned within 24 hours but doing it in a sustainable way is the icing on the cake!

on-demand laundry service!

We would like to thank everyone that has been involved in the journey since 2014! The Laundryheap members, partners and especially the customers have all been essential to the success and growth!

Laundryheap 2021 roundup

It’s been another successful year at Laundryheap. Despite the set backs that the continuing pandemic has thrown our way, the hard work and dedication of the Laundryheap team has allowed us to push through and continue delivering our high-quality laundry and dry cleaning service to you, our dedicated customers. These are just a few of Laundryheap’s 2021 highlights.

  • Rebrand
  • E-Bikes
  • Sustainability
  • Hotel laundry
  • Continued pay it forward scheme
  • Keeping our customers safe
  • Looking forward to 2022

Rebrand

The biggest change that Laundryheap has seen this year has been our rebrand. The old Laundryheap brand prioritised functionality which, although important, didn’t allow us to create the personal relationship with our customers that we wanted. Enter the brand new Laundryheap. A sleeker logo, vivid colour palette, bold typography, and empathetic imagery has allowed us to better convey to our customers who we are, what values we have, and why we should be your first choice for all of your laundry and dry cleaning needs.

E-Bikes

In October 2020 we launched an E-bike trial in London, with bikes designed by EAV Cargo. This was in a bid to help lower our carbon footprint and help us work towards making Laundryheap an environmentally conscious business. After the success of the trial period, in 2021 we ordered a further 200 E-Bikes and, as of December 2021, have been trialling their use in Dubai. Our CEO, Deyan Dimitrov, commented, “Our EAV’s can move around the city almost twice as fast as vans, and the fact that they make almost no environmental impact whatsoever gives us a much more carbon-neutral status as a business.”

Sustainability

Our E-Bike program is just one of the steps that we have taken to help make Laundryheap a more environmentally sustainable business. Sustainability standards define the way that we operate, and we take the challenge of climate change extremely seriously. With that in mind, in 2021 we implemented several ways to help make Laundryheap a more environmentally conscious business. Firstly, we always wash at 30 degrees Celsius, unless a hot wash service is specified, to help lower our energy usage. Secondly, we only use environmentally friendly detergents that are made from natural alternatives to the synthetic chemical compounds that most mainstream detergents contain. Finally, we switched the plastic bags that we delivered our customers fresh laundry in to cotton, which has encouraged our customers to reuse the same bag an average of 5 times.

Hotel laundry

In 2021 we began our hotel laundry service. Partnering with hotels, internationally, to provide their guests with a fast, on-demand, laundry and dry cleaning service. Currently we are partnered with over 3,000 hotels, including Premier Inn, Holiday Inn, and Best Western, with plans to partner with even more in 2022.

 Continued pay it forward scheme

In March 2020, when the world went in to its first COVID 19 lockdown, we began the pay it forward scheme. Each time a Laundryheap gift card was purchased we would add an additional amount to the total on the gift card. Throughout 2021 we continued this scheme, ensuring that our customers were able to use the services they needed.

Keeping our customers safe

When the COVID 19 pandemic began in 2020 our top priority was the safety of our customers and staff. This remains our number 1 priority. In order to keep our customers and staff safe we are still picking-up and delivering all of our orders contactless to prevent the spread of COVID 19. Additionally, we have continued to offer a hot wash service that has a higher success of killing bacteria

Looking forward to 2022

As 2021 draws to a close we are immensely proud of the hard work and dedication of every Laundryheap employee, and the continued support of our customers. As we look towards the new year we hope to continue our expansion, providing our high-quality dry cleaning and laundry service to more customers across the world. We will also continue to work towards becoming as environmentally friendly as possible, consistently improving how we work, with the environment in mind. Above all, we will continue to provide our customers with a fast, reliable, quality laundry and dry cleaning service. Happy New Year!

Sustainability at Laundryheap

Photo by Markus Spiske from Pexels

Sustainability standards define the way that Laundryheap operates. As a company, we take the challenges of climate change very seriously and strive to do our best to operate as sustainably as possible.

  • Washing at 30
  • Environmentally-friendly detergent
  • Water treatment
  • Recycling
  • eCargo bikes

Washing at 30

Switching to a 30-degree wash saves the average person 38% energy. At Laundryheap, unless a hot wash service is specified, we always wash at 30. Not only does this lower our energy usage, but it also allows us to maintain a high standard of cleaning care for our customer’s clothing. Despite warmer temperatures being beneficial for disinfecting clothing, lower temperatures are more beneficial when lifting stains and improving the longevity of clothing.

Photo by RODNAE Productions from Pexels

Environmentally-friendly detergent

Most mainstream detergents are made from synthetic chemical compounds which have disastrous effects on the environment. For example, some detergents contain surfactants that help remove dirt from our clothing. Surfactants, however, are also highly toxic to aquatic life and break down the mucus layer that coats fish and protects them from parasites. At Laundryheap, we only use environmentally-friendly detergents, made from natural alternatives. In addition, we use automatic dosing pumps to minimise detergent waste.

Water treatment

Commercial laundry wastewater contains a high quantity of contaminants, such as detergents, grease, and dye. If this wastewater is pumped into freshwater bodies without first being treated, it can cause damage to aquatic life and increase water pollution. All of the wastewater generated at our Laundryheap facilities is treated and filtered before being sent into the sewer or sent out via tankers.

Recycling

Recycling is an essential step in helping save our environment. It reduces the need to extract raw materials from the earth and helps conserve natural habitats. Today, the recycling industry provides half of the world’s raw materials. Our switch from plastic to cotton laundry bags has resulted in our customers reusing bags an average of 5 times. In addition to this, we recycle 40% of our wire hangers.

Photo by ready made from Pexels

eCargo bikes

In 2019, transport produced 27% of the UK’s total CO2 emissions. E-bikes could cut the UK’s transport emissions by half. Having trialled the EAV2Cubed eCargo bike for a year, we have ordered 200 more bikes in a bid to lower the carbon emissions we omit whilst delivering to our customers. Our CEO, Deyan Dimitrov, commented, “Our EAV’s can move around the city almost twice as fast as vans, and the fact that they make almost no environmental impact whatsoever gives us a much more carbon-neutral status as a business.”

At Laundryheap we are committed to improving our sustainability, whilst maintaining a fast and reliable service for our customers. To book your Laundryheap order simply head to the Laundryheap website or download the free Laundryheap app.

Singapore- The city of the future

Photo by Elina Sazonova from Pexels

Singapore is a global leader in technology, sustainability, and environmentalism. As COP26 brings together just under 200 of the worlds leaders to discuss the future of our planet, these are just some of the ways that Singapore has become the city of the future.

  • Aquaponics farm
  • Technology farming
  • Innovative structures
  • Supertrees
  • Cloud Forest

Aquaponics farm

Singapore imports 90% of its food. Food contributes up to one third of the global greenhouse gas emissions damaging our planet. The Fairmount Singapore and The Stamford hotels are attempting to help combat the colossal amount of food Singapore imports by using an aquaponic farm. The farm, found on the hotels’ roof, uses aquaculture and hydroponics to grow fish and plants. Despite only being 450 sq. m, the rooftop farm will produce 1,200kg of vegetables and 350kg of fish every month once fully operational. Currently, the farm can only grow vegetables and fish, however the hope is that it can branch out into fruits. Although small, the farm is helping Singapore’s achieve its goal of producing 30% of its nutritional needs by 2030.

Technology farming

Alongside the aquaponics farm, technology farming is thriving in Singapore. Singapore has very low food security, and with climate change brining unpredictable weather, there is no guarantee that food will reach the country. Technology farms across Singapore use advanced machinery and equipment to help grow food and bring more food security to the area. High-tech egg farms, contained fish farms, and vertical vegetable farms, are all examples of how Singapore is using technological advances to help improve their food security.

Innovative structures

Singapore is home to some of the most iconic structures in the world, one of which is the CapitaGreen building. Located in the Central Business District, the building was designed to be a sustainable environment. Included in the structure is a customised façade that reduces the buildings temperature and a rooftop garden with 40 different types of plant. Additionally, the rooftop holds a 45m windcatcher that captures cool air and channels it to the floors below. Across the city from the CapitaGreen building is the Treehouse, a condo complex that is the world’s largest vertical garden. Each of the complex’s 4 towers is covered in greenery, reducing carbon dioxide and significantly lowering the building’s carbon footprint.

Supertrees

One of Singapore’s largest, and most iconic, environmental developments has been the nature park, Gardens by the Bay. Set in the heart of downtown Singapore, the park is made up of 3 waterfront gardens and a Supertree Grove. The Supertrees are home to more than 200 species of plants, and 11 of them have environmentally sustainable functions, such as harnessing solar energy. These alien-like structures are awe-inspiring to see, and are helping lower Singapore’s carbon footprint and increase their use of renewable energy.

Cloud Forest

Aside from the Supertree Grove, Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay is home to the Cloud Forest, a conservatoire. With a temperature between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius, the Cloud Forest is home to an array of exotic plants and a 35m tall indoor waterfall. It uses cutting-edge technology to minimise solar heat, de-humidify air, generate energy, and harness heat waste. It is a beautiful spectacle which is both breath-taking and environmentally conscious.

10 reasons why a hotel needs on-demand laundry for its guests

Offering your guests a laundry service is another way that you can make their stay more comfortable and convenient. You can do your guests’ laundry in-house, using space and resources that could be used elsewhere, or you can offer an on-demand laundry service that removes the pressure off of your hotel and allows you to earn a commission.

Why a hotel needs on-demand laundry

  • Focus on your core business
  • Get commission from your guests’ outsourcing
  • A scalable model
  • A trustworthy service
  • Limits your costs
  • Free up space in your hotel
  • On demand service
  • Convenient for your guests
  • Affordable prices for your guests
  • Quick and easy

Focus on your core business

Offering your guests an in-house laundry service is convenient for them but adds extra pressure on you. By outsourcing your laundry to an on-demand laundry service, you remove the stress and hassle that comes with running an in-house laundry service, allowing your focus to rest solely on the other aspects of running your hotel.

Get commission from your guests’ outsourcing

Hotel guests are already outsourcing their laundry, so why shouldn’t you benefit from it? By simply placing a few marketing materials around your hotel advertising Laundryheap’s on-demand service, you can earn commission on each order placed. It’s as simple as that.

A scalable model

On-demand laundry for hotel guests is a model suitable for a single hotel or a chain. It’s a scalable model that will see your commissions rise as you open up the possibility of on-demand laundry to more of your guests.

A trustworthy service

At Laundryheap, we know laundry. We are an award-winning laundry service, operating globally, and offering a 24 hours a day seven days a week support system. When you use an on-demand laundry service you are trusting that your guests will receive a top-quality service. With an ‘excellent’ rating on Trustpilot, and ranked number one by customers in the categories of ‘Dry Cleaner’, ‘Laundry Service’, and ‘Launderette’, you can trust Laundryheap to give your guests the quality laundry service that they deserve.

Limits your costs

Running an in-house laundry service requires investing in expensive equipment, such as industrial-sized washing machines and dryers, alongside detergent and labour costs. When you use an on-demand laundry service these costs are eliminated.

Free up space in your hotel

Not only does running an in-house laundry service require investing substantial funds, but it also requires space within your hotel. On-demand laundry services operate outside of your hotel, freeing up the space you would have used on a laundry room for an alternative purpose, such as more storage for linen and cleaning supplies, improved staff facilities, or additional rooms.

On-demand service

When a guest stays at your hotel there is no guarantee that they will want their laundry done. On the other hand, guests could be left disappointed if a laundry service is not available to them. Offering an on-demand laundry service to your guests eliminates the expense of running an in-house laundry service, whilst satisfying the needs of guests who require their laundry to be done.

Convenient for your guests

At Laundryheap our top priority is our customers. That is why we have designed our on-demand service to be as flexible and accommodating as possible. When your guests book a Laundryheap service, they specify the time they would like their laundry to be picked up and when they would like it redelivered. Additionally, guests can track their driver when they are en-route to their hotel and even contact the driver with any questions or queries.

Affordable prices for your guests

Partnering with an on-demand laundry service does not only earn you commission but is also affordable for your guests. When you partner with Laundryheap, a unique voucher code will be printed on each marketing material placed in your hotel offering your guests a discount to use Laundryheap’s services. This works as an incentive for each guest to have their laundry done at an affordable rate, whilst you earn commission on each order that is placed.

Quick and easy

Using an on-demand laundry service is quick and easy. Guests can book their Laundryheap order by downloading the free Laundryheap app or via the Laundryheap website. They must simply specify the service they require, the time they want their order picked up, and when they would like their clothing redelivered. All of our transactions are done cashless, contactless, and with the guests in mind.

Laundryheap is an on-demand laundry and dry cleaning service offering contactless collection and delivery within 24 hours. Globally, we service over 3,000 hotels, from chains, such as Premier Inn and Ibis, to independent hotels. Our on-demand laundry service will work for any budget.

Rebrand! The new Laundryheap

Welcome to the new Laundryheap brand- strong and dynamic, and putting you at the centre. With a brand new logo, vivid colour palette, and bold typography, Laundryheap has never felt more like a brand that you can trust. Let us reintroduce you to who we are and tell you more about our new brand.

  • Who is Laundryheap?
  • The old Laundrheap
  • The new Laundryheap
  • The future of Laundryheap

Who is Laundryheap?

Laundryheap is a global on-demand laundry and dry cleaning service. We offer a flexible and convenient solution to laundry, giving you more time to spend doing the things you love. At Laundryheap, we value your time, which is why we offer a 24-hour turnaround at no additional charge. We are fast, reliable, and strive to ensure that our customers receive a quality service.

The old Laundryheap

The old Laundryheap brand prioritised functionality, but we now want to increase our focus on creating a personal relationship with our customers. We felt a disconnect between our brand and those who were using our services. This, coupled with the rapid growth that we have experienced over the past year, urged us to create a new and dynamic brand that better represented who we are as a company, and brought us closer to you, our customer.

The new Laundryheap

We are still the same Laundryheap, offering a fast and reliable 24-hour laundry and dry cleaning service for customers and businesses, we have just built a stronger brand that better reflects our reliability and ability to empathise with our customers. Don’t believe me? Let me show you the new and improved Laundryheap brand.

Logo

You may notice that the new Laundryheap logo is not dissimilar to our old logo. We didn’t want to completely change our icon, simply modify it to look sleeker and more human-centred, achieved by creating softer edges to better combine the image of a freshly laundered shirt with a heart. Our logo remains strong and focused, the emblem of a company that you can trust with your laundry, whilst also showing the happiness we achieve by providing our customers with the quality laundry service they deserve.

Colour palette

Our new colour palette has been designed to be vivid but non-intrusive with a mixture of light pastel colours and darker, more vibrant, shades. We wanted to highlight the happiness and warmth of Laundryheap, whilst remaining consistent and professional, creating a colour palette that reflects the trustworthiness and confidence of the Laundryheap brand.

Imagery

Laundryheap’s new imagery perfectly combines the functionality of using Laundryheap’s services with the joy our customers feel at having an empty laundry basket. We want to highlight the ways that you could spend your time after the stress of doing your laundry has been eliminated, doing so with a series of bright and happy imagery.

Typography

The typography that we have chosen is bold and distinctive to assure you that we are a company that understands laundry and can adequately care for yours. That being said, there is a slight curve to the lettering we have chosen, giving it a softer, friendlier, and less authoritative tone.

Guidelines

For Laundryheap’s new brand to be cohesive across all of our platforms, we have created a brand new set of guidelines. Our guidelines clearly outline how our new imagery, typography, colour palette, and logo should be used to convey Laundryheaps ethos to you, our customers. With our new visual brand, comes a change in tone. Rather than being distant and overly professional, we want our voice to allow you to get to know us. At Laundryheap we are confident, witty, and trustworthy, and we want to share that with you.

The future of Laundryheap

Our mission is to become the first choice for outsourcing laundry globally. Providing everyone with a fast, quality laundry service, which allows them to focus more of their energy on doing what they love. As a company, we are committed to working sustainably and are adjusting the way we work every day to lower our carbon footprint and help save our planet. Above all, we hope to continue serving our customers, both old and new, and we hope that our new brand will help us to achieve a more personal relationship with you.

Why do we need clean beaches?

Photo by Adrianna Calvo from Pexels

Every day 8 million pieces of litter enter the sea. This includes plastic bags, metal cans, fishing nets, and cigarettes. Beach clean-ups are essential in preventing human waste from reaching the ocean and causing more damage to our environment. These are just 5 of the reasons they are so important.

  • Beaches in the ecosystem
  • Saving marine animals
  • A thriving economy
  • Limit illness
  • A safer environment

Beaches in the ecosystem

Beaches are an integral part of our ecosystem. They provide a home for thousands of marine species, some of which can’t be seen by the naked eye. These tiny organisms are essential in the process of seawater filtration and nutrient recycling, which gives us fresh water to drink. In addition to this, many marine creatures, such as sea turtles, use beaches to nest and lay eggs. If beaches continue to be polluted, these species will have no space to nest, leading to their extinction, and a drastic shift in the food chain.

Photo by Jolo Diaz from Pexels

Saving marine animals

8.3 million tonnes of plastic is discarded in the ocean every year, killing 1 million marine animals. Beach clean-ups lower the chances of species coming into contact with and being harmed by waste left on the beach. What may seem like only a plastic bottle, could cause serious harm to marine life, so it’s best to pick it up and eliminate the risk.

Photo by Lucien Wanda from Pexels

A thriving economy

Beaches attract millions of tourists to coastal locations, encouraging them to explore not only the beach but the local attractions. Globally, tourism makes up for 1 in 4 jobs, making it a financially viable industry we must continue growing. If our beaches are overly polluted, tourists won’t be interested in visiting coastal areas and spending money on local businesses, resulting in global job losses.

Limit illness

The pollution we put into the ocean can end up making us sick. The average seafood eater will consume 11,000 fragments of plastic every year, the chemicals of which can make you incredibly ill. Picking up as much plastic as possible from our beaches will prevent it from polluting the waters and the marine life we may end up eating, lessening our chances of becoming ill.

Photo by Harrison Haines from Pexels

A safer environment

Polluted beaches filled with discarded litter are not only damaging to the ecosystem but are also incredibly dangerous for visitors. Broken glass, plastic bags, and cigarette butts can cause serious harm to anyone strolling down the beach who may happen to accidentally step on them. The risk of damage increases for children who are more likely to pick up pieces of rubbish and mistake them for toys or ingestible items. It’s simply safer in all manners to pick up litter as soon as you see it.

How do you teach children to be environmentally conscious?

Climate change is rapidly altering our world, and we all need to be doing our best to be environmentally conscious. This includes teaching children about climate change and how we can save the planet.

  • Make recycling fun
  • Show them how amazing the great outdoors is
  • Involve them in food changes
  • Teach them with fun experiments
  • Make energy-saving fun
  • Show them different ways to travel
  • Limit the amount of single-use plastic in your house
  • Encourage a love of animals

Make recycling fun

Recycling helps reduce the pollution caused by waste and reduces the demand for creating new products. Up to 75% of all waste can be recycled, and it’s as easy as separating your rubbish into recyclable and non-recyclable bins. To encourage children to recycle, make the task fun. For example, you could let them decorate the recycling bin using recyclable materials, such as paper. This will help teach them the different recyclable materials, whilst allowing them to be creative. Making recycling less of a chore and more exciting will help children begin to understand what recycling is, how it is done, and why it is important.

Photo by ready made from Pexels

Show them how amazing the great outdoors is

Nature is amazing and something that must be shared with children. Whether you take them on daily walks around the park, explore a nature reserve, or take a trek around a farm, encourage your children to be outside and exploring nature. If you notice that your local streets and parks are polluted with litter, you could take your children litter picking, explaining along the way the damage of litter to the environment. The more environmentally enthused children are, the more likely they will be to protect it.

Involve them in food changes

From farming animals to throwing away leftovers, food consumption has a considerable impact on the environment. There are several ways that we can reduce the environmental impact of our food consumption including eating less meat, choosing seasonal food options, and growing our own fruit and vegetables. Allow children to explore different food changes with you, and be part of the process from the very beginning. If you are growing your own plants, let your children help plant and maintain the seeds. Create a colour-coded calendar with your children to assess when a certain food is in season. Let them help cook meals on a daily basis. Most importantly, encourage them to have an interest in their food and where it comes from.

Photo by Maggie My Photo Album from Pexels

Teach them with fun experiments

The climate crisis can be difficult to understand, even as an adult. To get children to begin to understand the changing world, and the importance of preventing these changes, you can teach them using fun and interactive experiments. For example, to show them how pollution works fill two cups halfway with water and add dilutant juice, or food colouring, to one cup. You can now show them that adding clean water can not change the coloured water back and that by mixing the coloured water with the clean water you only change the colour of the clear water. This will help better explain how pollution spreads and can open a conversation about the effects of pollution and how it can be limited.

Photo by Gabby K from Pexels

 Make energy-saving fun

We all need to be doing our best to reduce our carbon footprint and save energy. This can be difficult when there are children about, which is why you can encourage them to save energy by making it fun. Encourage your children to switch off lights by making it a part of their nightly routine. Make a competition to see who can save the most energy with an award for the winner. Have an energy-saving evening doing activities that use as little energy as possible. Try and be as inventive and creative as possible to encourage the children to save energy and be environmentally conscious.

Photo by Myicahel Tamburini from Pexels

Show them different ways to travel

Car pollution is one of the major causes of global warming, which is why we should be teaching children about alternative ways to travel. Encouraging children to walk is not only great for the environment but is a good way to get them exercising. For longer journeys, consider taking public transport rather than a car, and explain on your journey the environmental benefits of taking public transport. You may also want to explain the advances in electric cars and how they help prevent car pollution.

Photo by Gotta Be Worth It from Pexels

Limit the amount of single-use plastic in your house

Single-use plastics include plastic bags, drinks containers, disposable cutlery, and wet wipes, amongst other household items. If you limit children’s exposure to single-use plastics they will be less likely to use them throughout their life. There are many ways to avoid using single-use plastics, such as using bags for life, stocking up on reusable drink bottles, and using bamboo alternatives. Whilst transitioning away from single-use plastics, explain to children the harmful effects plastic has on the environment and why we should be limiting the amount we use.

Photo by Mikhail Nilov from Pexels

Encourage a love of animals

Animals are an important part of the survival of our planet, which is why we should be encouraging children to care for them. Over 500 species have gone extinct since the 1700s, and we can’t afford to lose any more. It is important that we educate children on the role that animals play in the survival of our planet, and thoroughly explain why they are going extinct and how to stop this. Encouraging a love of animals can be as simple as getting a pet, visiting a farm, or simply watching animal documentaries. We need to protect all the animals inhabiting our planet and conserve their habitats in any way possible.

Make sure you are disinfecting

When washing your child’s school uniform, you must make sure that you are disinfecting, not just cleaning. Cleaning your child’s uniform will remove dirt and germs from the surface of their clothing, whereas disinfecting involves using chemicals to kill germs and bacteria to stop them from reproducing and spreading.

Wear gloves

When handling your child’s school uniform, or any clothing that may have been exposed to COVID 19, it is advised that you wear gloves. They will prevent germs and bacteria from transferring on to your hands and being spread to other surfaces. If you do not have a pair of gloves, make sure that you thoroughly wash your hands after handling clothing

Wash inside out

Washing your child’s school uniform inside out will prevent piling and bobbling. You will be washing your child’s uniform frequently, so there is an increased risk of tears and rips in the fabric. Washing your child’s uniform inside out will help lessen this damage.

Check the care label

Despite the fact that hot washes are the best way to eliminate germs and bacteria from clothing, always check the care label before washing your child’s uniform. Some items of your child’s uniform may not be suitable for hot washing, and doing so may leave the item damaged and unwearable.

Avoid shaking clothes

Before and after you take your clothing out of the washing machine, avoid shaking it out. If you shake your child’s uniform, there is the potential of spreading COVID 19 germs and bacteria to the surrounding areas, even after you have washed your clothing. Wait until your item is completely dry before shaking.

Don’t leave clothing in the washing machine

Regardless of COIVD 19, it is never a good idea to leave your washed clothing sitting in the washing machine as it can cause damp and mould. If left wet in the washing machine, any of the remaining germs on your child’s uniform, which would be removed in the drying process, could rapidly multiply. For the best result, take your child’s school uniform out of the washing machine to dry as soon as possible.

Let clothing dry completely

For the best result of removing COVID 19 bacteria, tumble dry your child’s school uniform. However, if you do not have a tumble dryer, air drying will work effectively. Viruses and bacteria thrive in damp environments, so it’s important that you wait until your child’s school uniform is completely dry before allowing them to re-wear it.

Don’t forget about school bags

It’s important to not only disinfect your child’s school uniform, but also their school bag. Similarly to their school uniform, bags need to be washed every day. If your child’s bag is made from a cloth-like material, you can wash it with your child’s school uniform. Alternatively, if your child’s bag is made of leather, or a leather-like material, you can use disinfectant spray or wipes to wipe down the surface of the bag. If you are using this method, make sure that you reach every corner of your child’s bag.
